  1. You’re right Mike, a fascinating discussion. It points to the timeless dialectic between Tradition and Development of Doctrine. In my mind, Dr. Liccione is getting the best of the discussion, simply because he understands and acknowledges the narrow scope of Irenaeus’s argument in AH. Irenaseus was simply refuting the Gnostic claims, and not really addressing the question of the proper role of the hierarchy in the Development of Doctrine. His thoughts on that subject can only be inferred, and I believe Dr. Liccione is on the right track.
